Take a drive towards the coast and discover the pretty South Hams, with fabulous beaches, river estuaries and rolling hills surrounding the lovely old towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, Kingsbridge and Salcombe. Down the coast is the English Riviera, with its micro-climate, tall palm trees, well laid-out municipal gardens and large promenade, lined with ice cream shops and cafes. Torquay is the birthplace of Agatha Christie and so there are plenty of historic reminders of the author, plus this seaside town also provided the inspiration for the classic British comedy Fawlty Towers.
