Property Description

What a superb location! Literally on the banks of the beautiful River Dee in the fantastically scenic Linn of Dee, just a mile out of Braemar, this extremely comfortable house soaks up wonderful views of the river where a plethora of wildlife can be spotted from 3 sides of this traditional detached cottage. Across the river is Mar Lodge Estate, known for its spectacular scenery and featured on the BBC’s Springwatch and Autumnwatch TV programmes. Although in the heart of the countryside, the cottage is only one mile from Braemar, a picturesque village with a good selection of interesting little independent gift shops, as well as a supermarket, post office, pub, restaurant and golf course. Fishing licences can also be obtained in the village, and with a stretch of river directly behind the cottage, it couldn’t be easier to indulge in a spot of angling. Braemar Highland Safaris run tours from the village where an experienced guide takes you out and shows you the stunning scenery in air-conditioned comfort. You can try to spot the local red deer, grouse, ptarmigan and eagles! A mile outside of the village is Braemar Castle which is owned by the Farquharson clan, and is open to the public in the summer months.
The Queen’s very own Scottish holiday residence, Balmoral Castle is 15 miles away and is also open to the public in the summer and you can explore the grounds, take in the royal exhibition and visit the coffee shop and gift shop. The Queen usually returns to the village each September for the Braemar Gathering, a long-standing event with traditional pipe music, dancing and Highland games such as tug of war and tossing the caber. As the cottage is within the Cairngorms National Park there is plenty to explore right on the doorstep and in particular the Cairngorm mountains which are popular with walkers and climbers. There is also easy access to skiing nearby at the Glenshee ski centre, 15 miles away, where you can try your hand at skiing and snowboarding, with lessons and equipment hire available. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Set in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, this beautiful cottage is an ideal family retreat.
