Courses – Mickleover – Kedleston Park – Derby – Ashbourne – Horsley Lodge
Set in 155 acres of mature Derbyshire parkland, Kedleston Park was constructed in the late 1940s by renowned course architects Colt, Alison and Morrison to a design originally penned by the legendary five-time Open champion, James Braid. Playing up to 7026 yards, from the Championship tees, the par 72 course offers an excellent test of golf for players of all abilities within the stunning surroundings of Kedleston Hall. The course benefits from USGA specified greens and a recent improvement programme to the bunkers, mounds and greenside complexes under the expert guidance of world-renowned golf course architects, Mackenize and Ebert in preparation for hosting qualifying for The Open Championship from 2018.
Horsley Lodge is an 18 hole golf course (par72) 6500 yards with USGA greens designed by World Champion Peter McEvoy, currently ranked No1 in Derbyshire. Established in 1990 this family owned Club’s 18 hole golf course was originally designed by course architect Bill White and remodelled again in 1998 by former World Champion of Golf and leading architect Peter McEvoy OBE. Today we acknowledge how his re-design of the greens and surrounds to USGA standards at Horsley in particular are truly delightful. Peter’s aim was “To create a course that is rewarding to the skilful golfer without discouraging the higher handicapper so as both can enjoy
With spectacular views towards Dovedale and the Peak District, only a mile from the centre of Ashbourne, the course is set in open countryside but is easily accessible from the A50 and the A52. The course in its present form was designed by the well-known golf course architect, David Hemstock, and was opened in 1999, although parts of it go back much earlier. Ashbourne GC is consistently rated in the top 3 courses in Derbyshire.
Mickleover Golf Club was established almost 100 years ago in 1923, and is a challenging parkland course for all standards, within the city of Derby. The course requires more accuracy than length off the tee and a sharp short game to tackle the small greens that run beautifully. The clubhouse is renowned for a friendly welcome, some great draught beers and home-cooked wholesome food. Ideal for a visit after your game and popular with groups of golfers on an away day.
