Courses – Cavendish – Buxton & High Peak – Chapel-en-le-Frith

he course, opened in 1925, was designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, whose list of courses includes the iconic Augusta National, home to the Masters. Cavendish is regarded by experts to be MacKenzie’s ‘Inspiration for Augusta’ and it’s easy to see why. With undulating fairways, changes in elevation, sloping greens and well thought out hazards, there are many holes at Cavendish that mirror those found at Augusta. Cavendish is a Top 100 golf course and is thought by many to be the best layout in the world under 6000 yards.

Buxton and High Peak, located in the heart of the Peak District, on the outskirts of the beautiful Spa town of Buxton, is based on free-draining Limestone, and is certainly one of the most consistently playable in the area. Often influenced by the prevailing wind, the 5,993 yard, par 69, course presents members, and visitors, with a challenging, and enjoyable, test of Golf. The course has frequently been likened to an inland Links course, with the 4th, 5th, and 6th holes proving the point, and, although set some 1,100 feet above sea level, is not subjected to arduous hill climbs.

Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club is 18 holes, and measures 6400 yards, representing an interesting and enjoyable challenge in the most beautiful countryside. The golf course is situated on the valley floor between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Whaley Bridge with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and ridges. Set on the edge of the Combs Reservoir this is a great front half with many interesting holes. The par 4 fifth presents a true golfing challenge and is one of those holes that makes you want to come back again and again!
