Courses: Ryton – Stocksfield – Hexham – Gosforth – Newcastle Utd GC – City of Newcastle – Westerthorpe – Ponteland – Northumberland – Prudhoe

Ryton Golf Club, founded in 1891, is located in the picturesque and historic heart of the Tyne Valley approximately 10 miles from the heart of Newcastle. A superb eighteen hole layout, the course is bordered by the River Tyne.

Stocksfield is the most picturesque golf course in the Tyne Valley. Play a round on the fabulous 18 hole par 70 course then enjoy a drink and refreshments on the balcony overlooking the course.

One of the interesting things about Hexham is that the first and last holes require some tough decisions and can decide what sort of round you will have. Even if you’ve started well the 18th hole can be in the back of your mind as you wonder whether risking trying for a birdie on the last.

Gosforth Golf Club is a course of immense character. One of the major features of the course providing a test on many of the holes, is the Ouse Burn, which winds its way down the 18th and through the 4th on its way to the Tyne.

Newcastle United Golf Course was originally designed by Tom Morris and has matured since itsā€™ conception in 1892. Measuring just over 6600 yards from the medal tees and with a par of 72, the course has proved to be a challenging but fair test of golf and boasts some of the longer par fives in the area.

The great Harry Vardon was engaged to design the City of Newcastle course. In 1962 the course was changed however, much of Vardon’s influence can still be seen today in the course which is rated one of the best in the North East and has staged many county events.

Accuracy, rather than length is the key to a successful round on the challenging 6357 yard Par 71 course at Westerthorpe and its SSS of 72 gives you a clue to how challenging it can be. Designed by Sandy Herd originally, the course has tree lined and generous fairways to all but the errant shot. Well protected par 3 greens provide great interest with well placed bunkers.

Ponteland’s stunning 18 hole parkland course sits in the heart of the North East with excellent facilities, affordable membership and arguably the best greens in the area.

Northumberland GC was designed in golfā€™s Golden Age by Colt and Braid, and regularly hosts national and regional championships, including the Open Regional Qualifier.Ā  Itā€™s challenging but still accessible to a wide range of golfers, and is a pleasure to play, all year round.Ā  Unusually, the course allows you to play over and alongside Newcastle Racecourse.

Prudhoe Golf Club is one of the best inland facilities in the region. The challenging 18 hole course has a reputation for its fast tricky greens where you seldom find a straight putt. There is also a small 6 hole par 3 practice area to loosen up before your game and afterwards you are guaranteed a warm welcome in the clubhouse.
